Devlog #3 Beta Build
Making the Beta for this game took an embarrassingly long amount of time, but that's more of a skill issue on my part.
My intentions for this beta was simply to make an actual, running and playing game, that being with a title screen, end screen, and death screen. I would have liked to make a win screen but I have not as of yet. I also made a working health bar, player and enemy sprites, and background/land.
Changes according to playtesting:
- I found that the enemies moved far too fast for the player to feasibly be able to get away and so I made enemies slower while keeping player speed the same
- My first iteration for the player character didn't look "dinosaur" enough so I remade it with a tail
- The health bar was originally going to be the atypical heart system but I was recommended to do something more dino/western and I went with hats
- The original art didn't mesh well together, so I changed the style, I personally like it more now as it feels more cartoony and as I am inspired by Undertale, Cult of the Lamb, Binding of Issac etc. I think it fits in with my personal need for cartoony feel better.
The main goal is still to kill the enemies and get through the level, as it stands there is only one level in this build but with my final I plan on having there be 3 before the win screen.
One issue I am running into though is actually getting the animations to work and getting the bullet to follow the player mouse as whenever I mess with it the player sprite turns as well which is very much not what I want.
My upcoming goals are to create a win condition, add more sprites to liven the area up, add 2 more levels, get the animations to work, and get the bullet--not the sprite--to follow the mouse.
